The University of Central Florida was a member of Florida State University in 1963 in order to give its place
Located 56 kilometers east of the university, the Kennedy Space Center provides high quality aerospace technology training and was founded as the Florida Engineering University. It changed its name to the University of Central Florida in 1978 because academic research had expanded into almost all fields. In 1990, the school established the Center for Space Education and Research.
