University of East Anglia, short for UEA, official name: University of East Anglia, located in Norwich, England. It is a first-class institution in the UK, a member of the famous 1994 University Group, and one of the 1% elite universities in the world. It is ranked 149th in the world by The Times Higher Education World University Rankings 2016 and 269th in the QS World University Rankings 2019.

The University of East Anglia, based in Norwich, was founded in 1961 and currently consists of 18 colleges and a number of research institutes. Currently, there are 8,300 students, including 6,100 undergraduates and 2,200 postgraduates. Including those taking basic courses, the total number of foreign students at the university is 1,500.

Folding course arrangement

In a single-course system, students take a specific introductory course and then have the opportunity to narrow their major further or take courses based on their personal interests and hobbies. Some courses include a one-year internship with a company, or an internship abroad.

The school uses a two-term system, with students taking tests at the end of each term. The constant testing removes the pressure of final exams, and the single-subject system breaks down the traditional barriers between the arts and sciences, allowing students to take business and trade, languages, and computers as part of their degree.

Basic facilities

There are shops, banks, bars, post offices and laundromats on campus. A comprehensive system of health, welfare and counselling services has been established, including a student office providing expert advice to foreign students, a dedicated student counselling service, a University health centre (providing NHS medical and dental care), a multi-denominational church and an independent mosque. The Student Union coordinates the activities of more than 100 student clubs and associations, including a Foreign Student Association and several national groups. Those who do not want to cook for themselves can eat in the school’s four all-day dining halls.
